This is an extrait de parfum, so use sparingly as the concentration is 25%. It has a great longevity (an average of 24h) .
A secret about The Dark Side.
I love woody warm sweet woody oriental stuff, and this scent is my attempt in this category. Its formula is very complex, made up by lots of components which I tried to mix in the smoothest way I could. So many components that, if you ask me, I have to look up the formula, the pyramid being just a synthesis.
The funny thing is, I worked so much on the balance of so many ingredients that I forgot how it all started. It all started in Marrakesh, one of my favorite city, which I visited at 28 and then 39, always coming back with plenty of fake oils, scented stones, resins to burn, carpets, swords, and other useless but crucial objects. Last time I came back with many smelly bottles, among which a deliciously fake oud oil. I have never been a fan of it — as it was so fashionable lately, and I really hate trends — but this one is different. So, once home, I tried to make my own base inspired by this Moroccan fake oud, thus creating a sticky sweet woody smoky oriental stuff, which I called ‘My Oud’.
Some time after, I started my Dark Side project (at the time named ‘Into Darkness’) and integrated this base in it. By doing so, I added in due proportion all ingredients of ‘My Oud’ into the bigger formula of Dark Side. After that, I made so many other variations during the following months while searching for a further harmony, that I simply forgot that the soul of ‘My Oud’ was in.
Only a frag lover’s review — wondering about the possibility of the presence of Oud, which of course was not enlisted in the pyramid — made me remember about my lovely fragrant memory from Marrakesh. So, if you really want to keep a secret, you just have to forget about it, like I did with ‘My Oud’ base.

I am quite disappointed with this fragance of which I expected much. As a matter of fact a strong smell of dust takes over the other facets whereas I would have liked a more comfortable perfume. Moreover, its longevity on my skin is not as important as I thought. All in all, it’s a complex and very interesting fragrance that doesn’t suit me.

This is a sumptuous, warm, smooth and oh so very beautiful fragrance with a heavenly dark side (as the name suggests), which adds a depth to the composition to make it incredibly addictive and intoxicating. The incense is gorgeous on my skin and is sweetened a touch by the honey, which when combined with the comforting hints of vanilla, iris and sandalwood is a sheer delight. I particularly love the addition of cedar and vetiver as the fragrance devlops on my skin, which not only stops it from becoming overly sweet but also maintains the dark quality of the overall fragrance. I am quite simply in love with The Dark Side, it is another incredible creation from Francesca!

The first sample I tried from Francesca. I expected to love it given the notes but was shocked by how one dimensional it was for me at the start – all iris, basically. I wasn’t experiencing the Dark Side whatsoever, which disappointed me greatly. However, 5 months later and by now I’ve sampled every other fragrance and bought 2 bottles – I retried and I now get all the aspects that were hidden before – the honey, spices, incense. Immediately ordered a bottle and can’t wait to bathe in this – perfect for winter. Genderless fragrance too, would smell sensual and inviting on anyone whose skin it suits.
A heads up if ordering samples though, this is the second time this happened here – that I know of. I sampled Under my Skin twice, but the second was totally different and missing the rich and deep notes. I went for the full bottle anyway and it was exactly like the first sample thankfully – so it seems perhaps some of the samples sent are not fully aged. I’m curious to try some of my less favoured ones in another while.

This perfume was recommended to me by fragrance experts Nikolai and Angela.
After testing of sample I have ordered a full 100ml bottle as I am absolutely fascinated by the complex interplay of the fragrance notes.
First of all: As an extrait de parfum, this fragrance has an enormous sillage, so it should be dosed carefully. 1-2 sprays are sufficient.
Still clearly perceptible even after 12 hours.
A perfume that is very sensual, heavy and spicy, warm and atmospherically dense. Dark desires in perfection.

I blind bought this and have no regrets whatsoever. The spicy notes – and I mean the savoury-spicy kind, not a sweet dessert kind – had been more prominent on my first spray, but around 4 hours in, the notes of ambery incense start to come through, eventually taking centre stage at the 5th hour mark. The Dark Side’s drydown on me is a lovely, cosy honey, and the colder the weather, the quicker the perfume turns into an incense-and-honey scent. TDS is not overpoweringly sweet, and I wouldn’t call it a gourmand at any point of its development. It’s a smokey, but not downright dirty honey that conjures up an unlikely possibility: precious resins burning in a church tucked inside a glade, surrounded by beehives only made perceptible with its wafts of honey in the air.

This fragrance is one of a kind: Right from the start, there is a strong green note with iris (a thing I have never encountered before) – not forest or fresh green, but glowing olive cat eye green. Heated up by spices, it is very oriental, vivacious but heavy, more on the masculine and mature side. I love the part when it begins to soften up in the styrax-amber-honey and think it is way more dominant than Lover`s Tale. That being said, it did not really suit me, but still it`s beautifully crafted and a good choice if you want to make a long lasting impression on someone.

Dark Side is a walk into the hot desert, that ends in a rich market somewhere waiting to be possessed. It’s sensual, carnal, warm, dark, deep, dense and so elegant at some point, at the same time that he evokes pure sexuality.

I was a bit exited with this one as I have been almost all my scented love affair there on bright side. Though there need to be balance between light and dark, right? So I exploded and searced for my dark side and this Scent wraps around so tenderly and softly, that You can rest in the arms of The Dark Side. Love the Violets, Irises, Honey and Vanilla in the Wooden bed with Incence burn. The Dark Side is not so Dark after all.
