Description
Byzantine Amber is the third fragrance that makes up, together with Libertine Neroli and Unspoken Musk, the series specifically dedicated to the glorious raw materials of perfumery, reinterpreted according to the style of the house.
Byzantine Amber is an intense and decadent perfume, like a great civilization in the final phase of its splendour.
Salome by Gustave Moreau is a painting that can evoke the splendour and drama of this olfactory work in images.
The beautiful mosaics of the Byzantine civilization, such as those of Ravenna, have gleaming gold tesserae which are imperfect for being worn out over time. This sense of theatrical and luminous splendour accompanied by a dark and obscure side inspired Byzantine Amber.
The geranium – pulpy, rosy, spicy, slightly green, contrasts with the dry minerality of the ambergris and styrax.
The backbones of this work is a familiar structure, an ambery accord enriched by the spice that makes it sensual: cinnamon.
This warm and shiny accord is darkened by leathery, smokey and animal aspects, which give intensity and characterize the composition.

This is just wonderful! The opening gives me gourmand cinnamon cocoa vibes that even get more delicious and chocolate-y in the heart notes. The geranium is very subtle and blends in beautifully with the spicy balsamic notes. Although unmistakably sensual, I see this as a very delicate, refined, friendly perfume, rather flirty than intimidatingly erotic…approachable, and wearable on evenings all year round… A petite, cheerful, bohemian child-woman in peeptoes enjoying a sultry spring evening with a hot drink on the Champs-Elysees.

Spicy, sweet, very worn leather – an leather chest filled with spices, rather. Like the Voluptuous Oud, the leather in this doesn’t give me a headache (and leather fragrances usually do). I can also quite clearly see the inspiration of Byzantine mosaics and Moreau’s Salome – this fragrance smells dark but colourful, vintage, and very dramatic. It’s quite a bit like a very classic amber, very much in the same family of spicy ambers like Shalimar and Ambre Sultan, but it switches the vanilla base for leather and incense. Very special, a must-sniff for all amber lovers.
